European Red Deer Rut I

December 2008 During the last years I often went to a wonderful place called Wildenhainer Bruch part of the heathland Dübener Heide near Leipzig, Germany. In autumn, from a birdwatching hide, you can hear Common Cranes Grus grus, European Red Deers Cervus elaphus or even observe a patroling White-tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla without disturbing it.

Urban Orioles

July 2008 The so called Park-Dölitz-Lößnig in Leipzig’s south is one of my favorite urban locations for birding. It´s a reliable spot for European Golden Orioles Oriolus oriolus and Eurasian Wrynecks Jynx torquilla. In this sound recording you can hear a family on post-breeding dispersal. Waiting for Eurasian Bitterns

June 2008 Yesterday I went out to make sound recordings of Great Bitterns Botaurus stellaris. While I was waiting in the dark a European Roe Deer Capreolus capreolus came closer unnoticed and barked as it was frightened by my presence. Nearby a Common Nightingale Luscinia megarhynchos was singing in the dark too. PFR080622, 080622, European… Continue reading Waiting for Eurasian Bitterns
