In the northern part of Germany, the distribution of the Grey-headed Woodpecker Picus canus<\/em>
shows a larger gap. At the respective edges, the species is consequently found only very
irregularly – the species is a breeding bird only in small numbers very locally<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While I was able to observe Grey-headed Woodpeckers regularly during my time in Leipzig,
I never had the opportunity to observe this especially beautiful woodpecker in Berlin.
In the Spreewald<\/strong> area where I live now is a small population and so I have been re-connected
to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Leipzig, I never tried to sound record woodpeckers because the best place is the so-called
Auwald<\/strong> (flood plain forest)- a forest belt that runs through the middle of the city and is
therefore extremely noisy<\/strong>. That’s over now.
