\nIn early April the German Ornithologist\u2019s Society\u2019s – DO-G<\/a> bioacoustic
\nworking group<\/strong> met in Berlin for a workshop. They main aim was to give
\nan insight into techniques of bioacoustic monitoring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As the groups vize spokesman and one of the more experienced members
\nof the group I had the opportunity to attend the meeting in the Natural
\nHistory Museum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Some members talked about their work and their experiences with hard-
\nand software to record migrants<\/strong> or breeding birds only by their
\nvocalisations and how to detect their calls in sound recodings of longer
\ndurations automatically (pattern recognition<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

At the end of the weekend the group made a short field trip to the famous
\nSchorfheide-Chorin in the North of Berlin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I met Johannes Honold<\/strong> a birder and sound recordist from Bavaria on that
\noccasion. We decided to stay at the Schorfheide after the seminar hoping
\nto get some sound recordings of owls or local specialities like Common
\nCranes<\/strong> or the Wood Sandpiper<\/strong>.
\nUnfortunately, we have discovered that even this sparsely populated<\/strong> area
\nis heavily noise polluted<\/strong>, so that it\u2019s optical beauty is depreciated by the
