\nThe Presseler Moor- und Heidegebiet (Pressel mire and heathland reserve) was
\nthe favorite spot of my first years<\/strong> as a wildlife sound recordist
\nand ornithologist.
\nEspecially a part called Wildenhainer Bruch (Mire Wildenhain) attracted me
\nthat time. It is an area of great scenic beauty<\/strong> and the possibility of bumping
\ninto one of the stunning inhabitants like Common Crane Grus grus<\/em>, Common
\nSnipe Gallinago gallinago<\/em>, Water Rail Rallus aquaticus<\/em> or Red Deer
\nCervus elaphus<\/em> let me spent day after day there.<\/p>\n

The main benefit is it\u2019s far off the city<\/strong>!
\nEven if there\u2019s plenty of air traffic it lacks too much car traffic. In addition it
\nhas a observation hide (which is a bit unusual in Germany) to keep the crane
\ntourists off both the sensitive areas and my mics!<\/p>\n

For some reasons I discontinued my regular visits<\/strong> some years ago.<\/p>\n

After moving back to Leipzig I started to explore the area anew to find spots
\nwhich could fit for sound recording<\/strong>.
\nMy first visit at the Wildenhainer Bruch was a great come back<\/strong>!
\nI merged into the moor and had close encounters with stunning species like
\nNorthern Raven Corvus corax<\/em> or Black Woodpecker Dryocopus martius<\/em> and

Even it does not sound that spectacular for the first moment my highlight was
\na Black Woodpecker who gave persistant calls<\/strong> in front of a cave. I thought this
\nbird was showing off<\/strong> to attract a partner at a possible nesting cave. But then it
\nslipped into the cave looked out of it for a minute or so and at the end it turned
\noff the lights<\/strong> and went to sleep.<\/p>\n
