\nIt took a few years to return to Iceland<\/strong>. This time though without the silly, eurocentric<\/strong>
\nimage<\/strong> and personal projections<\/strong> of the ‘untouched paradise’ that so many bring along
\n– like me, back in 2015. -><\/a>
\nSo this time I could very well accept mass tourism, large-scale construction projects
\n(especially roads) and the seemingly unpretentious approach<\/strong> of many Icelanders to
\nthe landscape they live in. Except from one thing: photo-drones<\/strong>. I really learnt to hate
\npeople bothering wildlife and humans alike with that crap.<\/p>\n

Again it was a round trip with stays of a few days at certain places in order to explore,
\nto make sound recordings, to meet people and to take pictures for the bird ID website<\/strong>
\nI’m running with two friends. -><\/a>
\nDespite a long-lasting storm<\/strong> and degrees below zero we camped almost without
\nexception. And it has paid off!<\/p>\n

There were a few target species<\/strong> I wanted to sound record, but basically my interest
\nwas more to spend a lot of time listening<\/strong> to the general soundscape via naked ear or
\nmy multichannel recording<\/strong> rig.
\nA secret desire was to record a Blue Whale – unfortunately without success. But there
\nwas a surprisingly close, long lasting encounter with a hunting Humpback Whale
\nin a fjord – leaving us speechless.<\/p>\n

I really enjoyed the time in the mostly barren landscape<\/strong>, as someone who grew up in
\na heath-dominated landscape, those landscapes immediately make me feel being at
\nhome.
\nFor the very first time I saw Iceland’s forests<\/strong>, which was quite strange after spending
\ntwo weeks in the tundra, stone desert<\/strong> and along coasts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
