March 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

After moving to Berlin<\/strong>, I slowly started to familiarise with my new environment, made
\nsome first trips in order to explore new spots<\/strong> and to check their suitability for sound
\nrecording.<\/p>\n

Unlike Leipzig, Berlin is not only surrounded by totally ruined agricultural deserts<\/strong> only,
\nbut of finest heathland<\/strong> and some interesting nature reserves<\/strong>.
\nBut since Berliners like to escape the city into the countryside as often as they can,
\nthere is some pressure on those spots too.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Common Kestrel Falco tinnunculus<\/em><\/p>\n

The nature reserve ‘Sch\u00f6nower Heide’, a former military area<\/strong>, is located northeast of
\nBerlin. It’s a rather small heathland with good numbers of typical species like Woodlarks
\nand Tree Pipits, occasionally Eurasian Hoopoes and Eurasian Nightjars allegedly do
\nbreed here too.<\/p>\n

During my first trips in winter and early spring<\/strong>, only a few birds sang, but there have
\nbeen some nice flocks of winter guests<\/strong> like Eurasian Bullfinch, Common Redpoll
\nand Fieldfare.
\nIn a fenced part of the protected area also live Fallow Deer. After all, a spot to study
\nthe vocalisations of this introduced species…<\/p>\n

During their song flights<\/strong>, Woodlarks usually mark a wide range, what makes it really
\ndifficult to capture complete ‘songs’ including initial and final part in consistent quality.<\/p>\n

In March two forms (or species if you like) of Eurasian Bullfinch were present in mixed
\nflocks. In the following recording, a northern individual (probably ssp. pyrrhula) answers
