I spent a good part of the winter 2017\/18 with studying vocalisations of Red Crossbills
\nLoxia curvirostra<\/em>, Parrot Crossbills Loxia pytyopsittacus<\/em> and the very close related
\nCommon Redpoll Acanthis flammea<\/em> (or Lesser Redpoll\u00a0A. cabaret<\/em>, Mealy Redpoll
\nA. flammea<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Arctic Redpoll A. hornemanni<\/em> if you like).<\/p>\n

In course of a huge influx<\/strong>, two taxa where omnipresent<\/strong> almost all over the eastern part<\/strong>
\nof Germany<\/strong>, which made it an easy task to get decent sound recordings. For the Parrots
\nI had travel to Lower Saxony<\/strong>, where some breeding pairs<\/strong> reliably could be found at the
\nsame spots over several weeks.<\/p>\n

In addition to studying the behaviour<\/strong> of those, otherwise very sporadically encountered
\nspecies, I was able to increase my collection of sound recordings<\/strong> considerably.<\/p>\n

As expected, the analyses<\/strong> of the new stuff prompted more questions than answers<\/strong>,
\nand more research will be necessary to make solid conclusions out of them.<\/p>\n
