{"id":206,"date":"2012-06-17T09:00:30","date_gmt":"2012-06-17T09:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/singwarte_wordpress\/?p=206"},"modified":"2017-12-09T12:29:35","modified_gmt":"2017-12-09T12:29:35","slug":"arabian-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/?p=206","title":{"rendered":"Arabian summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>June 2012<\/strong><br \/>\nIn April and May 2012 I stayed in Lower Egypt for a <strong>bird migration survey<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThis gave me several opportunities for sound recording.<\/p>\n<p>To walk around in Egypt as a <strong>foreigner<\/strong>, moreover with <strong>suspiciously looking equipment<\/strong>,<br \/>\nwas not easy these times. So I could manage only a few trips, sometimes <strong>acompanied by<br \/>\na policeman<\/strong> in order to protection and control.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these social difficulties there were heavy climate and weather conditions.<br \/>\nThe temperature was between <strong>35 and 43\u00b0C<\/strong> and in spring there are strong winds &#8211; the<br \/>\nso called <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Khamsin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Khamsin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In egyptian villages some bird species are <strong>omnipresent<\/strong>:<br \/>\nLaughing Doves <em>Streptopelia senegalensis<\/em>, Graceful Prinia <em>Prinia gracilis<\/em>,<br \/>\nSpur-winged Lapwing <em>Vanellus spinosus<\/em>, House Sparrow <em>Passer domesticus<\/em>,<br \/>\nZitting zistola <em>Cisticiloa juncidis<\/em> and the Senegal Thick-knee <em>Burhinus senegalensis<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately there was <strong>constantly anthropogenic sounds<\/strong> or more precisely: noise!<br \/>\nCars, car horns, generators, water pumps, motor cycles, muezzins through<br \/>\nloudspeakers, earpiercing loud popular music form cars and Tuk tuks.<br \/>\nThis is literally hell for a wild life sound recordist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_sandafa.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-787\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_sandafa.jpg\" alt=\"12_blog_egy_sandafa\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_sandafa.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_sandafa-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_sandafa-550x413.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_sandafa-230x173.jpg 230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nin front of our house<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_smaragdspint.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-788\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_smaragdspint.jpg\" alt=\"12_blog_egy_smaragdspint\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_smaragdspint.jpg 637w, https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_smaragdspint-239x300.jpg 239w, https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_smaragdspint-550x691.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/12_blog_egy_smaragdspint-230x289.jpg 230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGreen Bee-eater <em>Merops orientalis<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Spur-winged Lapwing is a <strong>common bird species<\/strong> in the rural landscape. It mostly<br \/>\nbreeds on <strong>rooftops<\/strong>, like the Senegal Thick-knee. Dozens of them emerged out of the<br \/>\nblue attracted by the cattle-like fur of my windshield &#8211; what a nightmare! The smaller ones<br \/>\ncontained <strong>less human waste<\/strong>, so we were lucky to observe <strong>amphibians<\/strong>.<br \/>\nUnfortunately we couldn&#8217;t manage to identify all of them.
