{"id":2045,"date":"2018-05-31T21:03:55","date_gmt":"2018-05-31T21:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/?p=2045"},"modified":"2018-06-01T21:04:12","modified_gmt":"2018-06-01T21:04:12","slug":"birds-at-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.singwarte.info\/?p=2045","title":{"rendered":"Birds at war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>May 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier the month the <strong>artist duo<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/famed.us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FAMED<\/a> kindly invited me to give a talk at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adbk-nuernberg.de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nuremberg\u2019s<\/a><br \/>\nart academy. Their chosen topic was <strong>ornithology and birding in times of war<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Some years ago <a href=\"http:\/\/afternature.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcus Held<\/a> and I were preparing an artistic work, <strong>reflecting<\/strong> on<br \/>\nG\u00fcnter Niethammer\u2019s paper \u2018Beobachtungen \u00fcber die Vogelwelt von Auschwitz\u2019<br \/>\n(\u2018The Avifauna of Auschwitz\u2019) written in 1940.<br \/>\nAt the end, we did not exhibited it due to the rather <strong>unserious character of the exhibition<\/strong>,<br \/>\nwhich seemed not to be the <strong>appropriate setting<\/strong> to talk about bird monitoring in-between<br \/>\nthe atrocities in a german extermination camp.<\/p>\n<p>However, a talk would provide the right framework for it, and so I could dig deeper in<br \/>\nmore<strong> travel reports<\/strong> which were made during war missions, colonial raids, occupations<br \/>\nand the service in Auschwitz.<\/p>\n<p>I really enjoyed talking with FAMED and the students about various aspects of this<br \/>\n<strong>complex and difficult topic<\/strong>.
