June 2010<\/strong>
\nIn order to handle the bitter feelings of loosing a friend by death, I started
\nto make sound recordings inside and along the stone pit<\/strong> Gro\u00dfsteinberg
\n(near Leipzig) once again. It was one of the places, we regularly visited
\ntogether.<\/p>\n

Sadly the axcavation<\/strong> in the quarry has been boost anew. For that reason
\na lot of microhabitats were destroyed recently<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There was nothing left to me but to concentrate to the forest nearby and
\nI found a lot of interesting birds.<\/p>\n

I found four singing European Turtle Doves Streptopelia turtur<\/em> but once
\nagain the conditions for sound recordings were not the best. But I enjoyed
\nlistening <\/strong>to these rare birds very much.
\nThe doves were astonishingly shy, so I couldn`t approach them closer then
\n150 meters \u2013 maybe an implication caused by permanent persecution by
\nmen<\/strong> since decades.<\/p>\n

The simple song of the Common Cuckoo Cuculus canorus<\/em> is well known
\nin general. But from a closer point of listening you can hear an odd sound

Unexpectedly a Black Woodpecker Dendrocopos martius<\/em> was drumming to
\ndefend it\u00b4s territory.
\nThere are only a few older trees, but it seems to be enough for one breeding pair
\nof them. In addition I observed some Stock Doves Columba oenas<\/em>, which depend

Finally here\u00b4s a recording of a Wood Warbler Phylloscopus sibilatrix<\/em>. The
\npopulation of this fine singer is about to decrease in a dramatic way<\/strong> since
