July 2008<\/strong>
\nDuring the last weeks I regularly went to an area called Geiseltal<\/strong> near Merseburg
\nin central Germany. It was a brown coal pit<\/strong> till 1994. Now the area will be
\ntransformed<\/strong> to an immense water landscape<\/strong> for all kinds of sports and freetime
\nactivities.
\nSome animals which life in this really rare type of habitat<\/strong> will would disappear
\n\u2013 for example: Tawny Pipit Anthus campestris<\/em> or Eurasian Wryneck Jynx torquilla<\/em>.<\/p>\n

One of the outstanding species there is the European Bee-eater<\/strong> Merops apiaster<\/em>.
\nThe area inhabits around 100 breeding pairs and one can easily see one of these
\nbeauties. Unfortunately nature photographers hassle even breeding birds at their
\nnesting tubes to get “very special” shots.<\/p>\n
